Major Release: Multithreaded Web Scanning, VIN OCR, Advanced AR, and Enterprise Milestones

Over the past year, barKoder has delivered a range of major updates, including multithreaded Web scanning, VIN OCR, advanced AR capabilities, new document parsers, Zebra validation, and ISO 27001 certification. We’ve also made it easier than ever to test our SDKs across platforms.

The Web SDK just got a serious engine upgrade

barKoder Web SDK v1.7.0 brings multithreaded barcode scanning to the web through Web Workers. It uses two scanning threads by default, with support for up to four when your application needs additional processing power.

We’ve also replaced interval-based camera capture with requestVideoFrameCallback. Instead of repeatedly attempting to decode the same image, barKoder now processes new camera frames as they become available.

  • useMainThreadOnly for lighter workloads
  • custom .wasm hosting
  • automatic WASM versioning to beat stale browser caches
  • deferred resource loading
  • BCBP boarding-pass parsing

Remember the stuff we said was coming? It shipped.

Last time, we teased a new generation of AR overlays and support for decrypting South African driver’s licenses.

They’re no longer roadmap promises they’re live.

Advanced AR now offers configurable overlays, interactive barcode selection, and a new Search & Find feature. Enter the value you’re looking for, then use your camera to locate and scan the matching barcode in real time.

barKoder can also decrypt and parse protected PDF417 data from South African driver’s licenses, returning structured information together with the embedded facial image. We’ve also added dedicated parsers for South African vehicle license disks and ID documents.
