Challenge
Contactable needed PDF417 scanning for South African driver’s licenses. The RSA PDF417 barcode is very dense because it contains the client’s facial image, which makes it difficult to read. The lamination on the card also creates additional scanning challenges. Before barKoder, they were using a Cognex solution that already worked, but pricing was a major concern.
Solution
barKoder provided the PDF417 scanning capability needed for RSA driver’s licenses, matching the expected technical requirements while offering a much more attractive pricing model. Although Cognex and Microblink were also considered, both were described as expensive. The relationship with the barKoder team, especially Vangel Ivanov, was also an important factor in the decision.
Result
Contactable successfully implemented the barKoder reader into their solution as a working product. Since they replaced an already working solution, they could not provide a direct performance improvement percentage, but they highlighted that the ROI from barKoder’s pricing was significant. They also stated that barKoder is a technology they believe will remain valuable over time.
