Omicron

Challenge

On the shop floor of a luxury car manufacturer, barcode scanning needs to be fast, reliable, and flexible enough to support many different code types across a wide variety of components. Before barKoder, the team relied on a third-party software scanning library, while hardware scanners were limited by design — typically built for a single task and harder to extend.

They needed a software-based solution that could be embedded directly into a mobile app to unlock additional capabilities, without sacrificing reliability in real production conditions — especially in segregated networks with no internet access.

Solution

Omicron integrated barKoder SDK to bring scanning directly into their mobile workflow. barKoder stood out because it proved quick to integrate, reliable in scanning performance, and more cost-effective than other options they evaluated.

Two factors sealed the decision:

  • Flexible pricing that fit the project requirements
  • Offline license activation, critical for deployments in restricted environments where devices cannot reach the internet

Implementation was straightforward, and the barKoder team actively supported the rollout by sharing targeted suggestions to further improve scanning performance.

Result

With barKoder in place, the team can now scan the broad range of barcode types found across car parts in day-to-day shop-floor operations. The biggest operational win has been offline activation, which dramatically simplified onboarding and provisioning new devices in isolated networks.
